Open land

Print & Digital Publication

Open Land is a project that celebrates traveling, food & great stories. This project was conceived, designed, and produced entirely by myself. The curation and selection of contributors was managed with a tight deadline, while maintaining a high level of quality control and editorial direction.

Several of the participating designers hailing from the far corners of the world.

As lead editor/designer for OPEN LAND my responsibilities ranged from concept to production & distribution. Several challenges were overcome to achieve the desired result:

  • define the concept and the publication's DNA;

  • define the audience and visual language;

  • define the format & distribution channels.

It was crucial for the project that the publication be faithful to a multicultural philosophy, and this cultural aspect set the tone for this publication's DNA & audience. The first edition features twelve visual designers whose work and life are influenced by their travels. Twelve stories, twelve images from the road & twelve recipes that were discovered while traveling were selected carefully. Print on demand was used for production, and distribution was handled through a Brazilian online shop. European standard A5 format was chosen for production and shipping reasons. A special print edition was created for the Portuguese language version, since I knew that the publication would appeal to visual designers and paper lovers in Brazil where my studio had been working for over 10 years.

Images created for the publication.

A Portuguese language print edition was launched in Brazil.
